Archiving Policy

Ensuring long-term accessibility, integrity, and preservation of scholarly publications.

Digital Archiving and Preservation Statement

METHOMIKA: Jurnal Manajemen Informatika & Komputerisasi Akuntansi, published by Universitas Methodist Indonesia, recognizes the importance of preserving scholarly publications and maintaining the long-term accessibility of scientific knowledge.

The journal provides an online archive of published issues and articles through its official Open Journal Systems (OJS) website. METHOMIKA supports the development of responsible digital preservation practices to protect publication content, bibliographic metadata, and the integrity of the scholarly record.

This policy describes the journal's archiving objectives, digital content, backup and recovery considerations, long-term preservation options, and responsibilities for maintaining access to published research.

1. Objectives of Digital Archiving

METHOMIKA's digital archiving policy aims to:

  • Maintain the accessibility of published research.
  • Preserve the integrity of scholarly publications.
  • Protect publication files and bibliographic metadata.
  • Support the continuity of the journal's digital archives.
  • Reduce risks associated with technical failures or data loss.
  • Support future migration to compatible publishing platforms.
  • Maintain the traceability of the scientific publication record.

2. Digital Content and Metadata

Digital preservation planning should cover scholarly content and supporting publication records necessary to maintain the integrity, accessibility, and identification of published articles.

  • Published article files and supplementary materials.
  • Article titles, abstracts, keywords, and author metadata.
  • Journal volume, issue, and publication information.
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), where assigned.
  • Publication dates and bibliographic references.
  • Copyright and license information.
  • Corrections, retractions, and other publication notices.

3. Online Journal Archives

METHOMIKA maintains a publicly accessible online archive of previously published journal issues and articles through its official OJS website.

The archive enables readers, researchers, students, and academic institutions to browse earlier issues and access published scholarly content.

4. Data Backup and Recovery

The journal recognizes that regular backups and reliable recovery procedures are important for protecting OJS data and publication files against accidental deletion, system failure, security incidents, and other disruptions.

Recommended technical safeguards include:

  • Regular backups of the OJS database and publication files.
  • Secure storage of backup copies.
  • Access controls for administrative accounts.
  • Software updates and security maintenance.
  • Monitoring of system availability and integrity.
  • Periodic verification of backup recoverability.
  • Documented procedures for restoring journal services.

The implementation, frequency, retention, and technical arrangements of backups should be coordinated with the authorized institutional IT or server administrator.

5. Long-Term Digital Preservation

METHOMIKA supports the development of long-term digital preservation arrangements to reduce the risk of permanent loss of published research.

Potential preservation services that may be evaluated include:

LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

A distributed digital preservation approach designed to support long-term access to scholarly content through multiple participating archival systems.

CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)

A collaborative digital preservation service intended to protect scholarly publications and support future access under applicable preservation arrangements.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

A preservation service for eligible journals using Open Journal Systems, designed to support distributed preservation of published scholarly content.

Preservation Status and Verification

The services listed above are potential preservation options. Their inclusion in this policy does not indicate that METHOMIKA currently participates in or has successfully deposited content with those services. Active participation must be confirmed through appropriate registration, configuration, and preservation records.

6. Access to Archived Publications

Published articles remain accessible through the journal's online archives, subject to the applicable Open Access, Copyright, and Licensing Policies.

Readers may browse archived issues and download available article files without subscription fees. Reuse of the published content must comply with the license applicable to each article.

7. Metadata Integrity and Discoverability

Accurate and consistent bibliographic metadata helps researchers identify, locate, cite, and access published articles.

The journal should maintain the accuracy of article titles, author names, publication dates, volume and issue information, identifiers, and relevant descriptive metadata when updating or migrating its publication platform.

8. Digital Security and Archive Integrity

The integrity of archived scholarly records should be protected against unauthorized modification, accidental deletion, and avoidable data corruption.

Changes to the published scholarly record, including corrections and retractions, should be documented transparently in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and post-publication policies.

9. Institutional Responsibilities

Journal management is responsible for coordinating publication archives, metadata accuracy, and the development of appropriate archiving procedures.

Server maintenance, security controls, backup configuration, restoration procedures, and technical preservation services should be managed in coordination with the institution's authorized technical personnel.

10. Policy Review and Improvement

METHOMIKA may periodically review and improve its digital archiving practices in response to technological developments, institutional requirements, platform migration, and scholarly publishing standards. Any material change to the journal's verified preservation arrangements should be reflected accurately in this policy.

Full English Publication Policy

Effective from Volume 11, Number 1 (April 2027), manuscripts intended for publication in METHOMIKA must be written entirely in English. Editorial correspondence, reviewer reports, author responses, and scholarly discussions throughout the publication process must also be conducted in English.
