Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process
Jurnal Kedokteran Methodist (JKM) implements a rigorous peer-review workflow to ensure the quality, validity, and clinical relevance of every published article. The review process follows these specific stages:
1. Initial Editorial Desk Review
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes a preliminary evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Section Editor. The criteria for this stage include:
-
Scope Fit: Ensuring the topic aligns with the journal’s focus.
-
Plagiarism Screening: All manuscripts are screened for similarities using software (e.g., Turnitin). Manuscripts with a high similarity index (above the journal's threshold) will be rejected or returned for revision.
-
Basic Compliance: Checking if the manuscript follows the Author Guidelines and ethical standards.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant medical field. JKM employs a Double-Blind Review process, meaning:
-
The identity of the authors is concealed from the reviewers.
-
The identity of the reviewers is concealed from the authors.
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its originality, methodology, clarity of results, and contribution to medical science.
3. Reviewer Recommendations
After evaluating the manuscript, reviewers provide one of the following recommendations:
-
Accept Submission: The manuscript is ready for publication as is.
-
Revisions Required: The manuscript needs minor changes.
-
Resubmit for Review: The manuscript needs major changes and a second round of peer review.
-
Decline Submission: The manuscript is not suitable for publication.
4. Author Revision
The editorial team forwards the reviewers' comments to the corresponding author. Authors are expected to revise the manuscript and provide a Response to Reviewers document, detailing the changes made or providing justifications for any points not addressed.
5. Final Decision
The revised manuscript is re-evaluated by the Editorial Board to ensure all reviewer concerns have been adequately addressed. The final decision to Accept or Reject the manuscript rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief or the Editorial Board.
6. Production and Publication
Once accepted, the manuscript moves into the production stage for copyediting, layouting, and proofreading before being published in the upcoming issue.
