Abstract

Background: Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways. The basis of this disease is bronchial hyperactivity and airway obstruction. Based on demographic background, in general, asthma is more common in children. Deaths from childhood asthma are rare, but their prevalence is increasing every year. There are several factors that can increase the risk of asthma, one of which is exposure to cigarette smoke. Smoking is a global health problem that has been reported from several institutions and research as a risk factor for the emergence of various medical disorders, especially in children. Indonesia is a country with the third largest smoking population in the world. Exposure to cigarette smoke will have an impact on the emergence of respiratory problems and trigger asthma in children.

Methods: This research is a research using the method of  literature review or literature review. Data obtained from secondary data using documentation techniques. Data documentation is based on journals related to research variables.

Result: Based on a literature study, seven journals were found related to the relationship between cigerette smoke and asthma.

Conclusion: There is a relationship between exposure to cigarette smoke and the incidence of asthma in children
