Abstrak

Islam Nusantara is an Islamic approach that emerged from a long process of interaction between Islamic teachings and local cultures in Indonesia. This concept emphasizes the peaceful, tolerant, and contextual dissemination of Islam without neglecting its universal values. Islam Nusantara upholds moderation, respect for tradition, and the strengthening of social harmony within a pluralistic society. Through the roles of scholars and saints (ulama and wali), Islam was widely accepted because it harmonized with local customs and indigenous wisdom. In the era of globalization, Islam Nusantara serves as a relevant model of religiosity to confront radicalism and identity crises. As a representation of a friendly and inclusive Islam, it reflects the religion’s ability to engage in dialogue with culture while maintaining the essence of its teachings. Therefore, Islam Nusantara is not a new form of Islam, but a distinctive way Indonesian Muslims understand and practice Islamic teachings in a peaceful and contextual manner.
