High cholesterol levels contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes and are a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. An imbalance between calorie intake and energy needs, with excess calories stored as fat, can lead to obesity. One method used to determine obesity is the BMI formula.

Objective: The purpose of this study is the relationship between Body Mass Index with Total Cholesterol Levels in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.

Research method: The type of research used is observational analytical measurement research, with a cross sectional design.

Results: The results of the study showed a significant relationship between body mass index and total cholesterol levels in type 2 DM patients with the results of the chi-square analysis test obtaining a p value of 0.030 (p < 0.05).
