Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a dangerous chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance that occurs due to the pancreatic gland that cannot produce insulin adequately or can be due to the body not being able to use insulin production effectively so that it increases blood sugar levels (KGD).

Research method: This study is laboratory experimental with a pretest-posttest only control group design, using male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) which are divided into 6 groups, namely the normal group, the negative control group, the positive control group, and the group given a high-fat diet (HFD). The independent variable HFD, and the bound variable is blood sugar levels. The data was tested using the Anova test.

Results: The results of the study showed that after 4 weeks of HFD administration with a dose of 4 ml/day, there could not be seen an increase in KGD into diabetes, this occurred due to the lack of time in administering HFD to test animals so that insulin resistance has not occurred.

Conclusion: Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that after 4 weeks of HFD administration still cannot cause diabetes in male white rats.
