Abstract

Background : Corona Virus disease (COVID-19) is a problem in the health sector that can be transmitted and the cause is the corona virus, namely Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19 is transmitted via droplets, both direct and indirect contact. This case first started in Indonesia on March 2 2020, as of December 31 2020, it is known that in Indonesia there were 743,198 cases with 109,963 active cases. At the beginning of the pandemic, there were difficulties in diagnosing COVID-19 due to the limited availability of PCR machines, so research was carried out on the neutrophil lymphocyte ratio as an indicator for diagnosing COVID-19 cheaply and quickly.

Objective : To find out whether there is a relationship between increasing RNL and severe COVID-19 at the Bhayangkara Tk II Hospital, Medan City, 2020 – 2023.

Method : The type of research used was observational analytical measurement research, with a cross sectional design involving a sample of 222 COVID-19 patients.

Results : From the results of the hypothesis test regarding the relationship between an increase in the neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and the severity of COVID-19 using the chi-square test, it was found that the value was [X2 Calculation 34.44 > X2 Table 0.05(1) 3.841; RP 2.1; CI 95%; 1.6268 – 2.9199].

Conclusion : There is a relationship between increasing Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio values and severe COVID-19 at Bhayangkara Tk II Hospital, Medan City.
