Background: A condition characterised by reduced and increased bone density referred to as osteoporosis, which can lead to fractures, has become a global health issue. Various other factors including protein deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, deficient calcium intake, BMI, gender, age, as well as race, all pose a risk for osteoporosis.
Objective: This study was conducted to determine how physical activity and smoking habits are related to the incidence of osteoporosis in elderly
Method: This research method is an observational analytic study using a case control design, using a questionnaire instrument. The sample obtained was 36 people with sampling using consecutive sampling technique.
Results: A chi square test was conducted resulting in physical activity values (p = 0.004; OR = 0.047; 95%CI = 0.005-0.434), and smoking habits (p = 0.008; 0R = 0.110; 95%CI = 0.024-0.500).
Conclusion: Respondents from Khu Orthopedic Clinic who have participated in this study, showed an association of physical activity on the incidence of osteoporosis and there was also an association of smoking habits on the incidence of osteoporosis.
