Background: Inguinal hernia is a common medical condition that can affect a patient's quality of life and often requires surgical intervention. Risk factors such as age and obesity are believed to play a significant role in the development of inguinal hernias. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between age and obesity with the incidence of inguinal hernias at Mitra Sejati Hospital in Medan 2023.
Research method: This type of research uses an analytical observational method, with a cross sectional design. The method of data collection was carried out using secondary data obtained from medical records of patients diagnosed with inguinal hernia at Mitra Sejati Hospital in Medan in 2023.
Results: In this study, the analysis showed a significant relationship between age and the incidence of inguinal hernia, with a higher prevalence in the middle-aged group. Additionally, obesity has also been shown to be a significant risk factor, with obese patients showing a higher prevalence of inguinal hernias compared with normal weight patients. The correlation between age and obesity on the incidence of inguinal hernia was found to be statistically significant.
Conclusion: there is a significant relationship between age and obesity and the incidence of inguinal hernia at Mitra Sejati Hospital in Medan.
