Abstract

Lymphatic filariasis, caused by filarial worm infection, is a chronic infectious disease that has significant global health impacts. This disease generally occurs in tropical and subtropical regions, with effects in the form of chronic swelling of the extremities and other body organs, as well as the potential to cause permanent disability. Diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis can be done through blood tests to detect the presence of microfilariae or by using serological techniques to find antibodies against filarial worms. The main treatment for lymphatic filariasis involves the use of drugs such as diethylcarbamazine (DEC) or ivermectin to kill microfilariae and adult worms. However, the effectiveness of these treatments is not always optimal, and drug resistance has become a significant problem.
