Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by plasmodium, which is transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2019 there were an estimated 228 million cases of clinical episodes and 405,000 deaths. In malaria endemic areas, the most vulnerable populations are children and pregnant women. Various complications that can arise include cerebral malaria, hypoglycemia, acute renal failure, anemia, pulmonary edema, shock, secondary bacterilal ilnfectilons, and placental ilnsuffilcilency whilch can result iln retardatilon of fetal growth and development, abortilon, low bilrth weilght babiles, congeniltal malarila, or stilllbilrth. The ailm of thils revilew artilcle ils to ilncrease understandilng of malarila ilnfectilon iln pregnant women. The method used ils a lilterature revilew.
