Abstract

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils that often occurs and can be triggered by viral or bacterial infections. The Indonesian Ministry of Health notes that the prevalence of tonsillitis in Indonesia reaches around 23%. Symptoms of tonsillitis involve a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, swollen tonsils, and fever. Treatment of tonsillitis is adjusted to the etiology, where viral tonsillitis can be treated with rest and adequate fluid consumption, while bacterial tonsillitis requires antibiotics. Prevention and appropriate management are very important to avoid potential complications such as chronic tonsillitis, peritonsillar phlegmon, or serious impacts on the cardiac system. A deeper understanding of the prevalence, risk factors, and effective treatment of tonsillitis is key in efforts to improve public health and reduce its impact on individuals' quality of life.
