Abstract

Background : Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach which can affect the mucosa and submucosa of the stomach. Temulawak is useful as an anti-inflammatory, and is also useful as an appetite enhancer. Objective: To determine the effect of Temulawak (Curcuma Xanthorrhiza) ethanol extract on the histopathology of the mice's stomach which is induced by aspirin and on the body weight of mice. Methods: This study used a True Experimental Laboratory research with a Post Test Only Control Group Design using a control group and a treatment group with simple randomization. A sample of 30 male mice that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were adapted for 14 days. The negative control group was not given any treatment, the positive control group was given oral aspirin 0.3 mg/25grBW/day. The PI, PII, PIII groups were given 0.3 mg/25grBW/day and temulawak extract with graded doses, namely 2.5 mg/25grBW/day, 5 mg/25grBW/day, 15mg/25grBW/day. Results: The highest mean gastric mucosal damage was in the positive control group. The results of the paired t-test statistic, in the treatment group, p= 0.02 (p <0.05), which means that there is a significant difference. Conclusion: Giving temulawak extract can prevent gastritis in mice, and can also increase the weight of mice.
