Abstract

Background : Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammation that occurs in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses and can last for more than 12 weeks. The occurrence of chronic rhinosinusitis is associated with tissue remodeling, malfunctioning of the sinuses' natural defense mechanisms, and varying degrees of inflammation. Chronic rhinosinusitis is a condition that has a strong effect on the quality of life of the individual and can impact economic well-being. The Sinonasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) is a measurement instrument used to evaluate the quality of life of individuals with chronic rhinosinusitis.

Objective: To determine the quality of life of rhinosinusitis patients based on SNOT-22 at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan City.

Methods: This study used the descriptive-qualitative method. The sample in the study consisted of 32 patients diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis.

Results: The majority of chronic rhinosinusitis patients have an age range of 26–65 years (31.3%) and are female (59.1%). The five symptoms with the highest score are nasal congestion, postnasal drip, thick nasal discharge, runny nose, and pain or pressure on the face. The picture of the quality of life of chronic rhinosinusitis patients shows individuals with poor quality of life, as many as 32 individuals (100%).
