Abstract

Background : Severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a new type of coronavirus that causes Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), which causes infections in the airways and results in death. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is one of the laboratory parameters used to determine the severity of COVID-19 disease. COVID-19 can affect all age groups and cause different symptoms or severity, but individuals over 60 with comorbidities are at higher risk of infection.

Objective: Knowing the relationship between C-reactive protein levels in COVID patients with and without comorbidities
Methods: This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The sample in the study was 92 patients who were confirmed to have COVID-19 and took the C-reactive protein test.
Results: The frequency distribution of patients was dominated by patients with age groups ≥ 60 years (43 patients) and female gender (54 patients), with the most comorbidities found in patients being hypertension (28 patients). In the analysis results, there is a relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19 in comorbid patients (p = 0.000) and without comorbidities (p = 0.003).
Conclusion: There is a relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19 in comorbid patients and in patients without comorbidities.
