Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder that results in a rise in blood sugar due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells or reduced insulin action (insulin resistance). Within the first decade following the diagnosis of diabetes, diabetic neuropathy might manifest; the longer one has diabetes, the greater the risk of neuropathy.

Purpose: At Pirngadi Hospital in Medan City, this study sought to determine the association between the prevalence of type 2 diabetes and diabetic neuropathy.

Research method: Cross-sectional observational analytic measurement research is the study methodology.

Conclusion: The results of the study showed a strong relationship between the development of diabetic neuropathy and the duration of type 2 diabetes.
