Abstract

Increased nutritional needs among adolescent girls are influenced by rapid physical growth and development, as well as changes in lifestyle and dietary habits that affect nutrient intake. Adolescence is a nutritionally vulnerable period, and anemia is one of the most common nutritional problems in this group. According to Riskesdas 2018, the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in Indonesia is 48.9%. This study aimed to examine the effect of counseling using leaflet media on adolescent girls’ knowledge of blood supplement tablets at SMK Dharma Patra, Pangkalan Susu District, in 2024. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted involving 79 tenth-grade female students selected through stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 54.05 (SD 8.810) before counseling to 87.59 (SD 7.065) after counseling, indicating an average increase of 33.54 points. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), demonstrating a significant effect of leaflet-based counseling on improving adolescent girls’ knowledge in anemia prevention. Therefore, it is recommended that schools and local health centers utilize leaflet media when delivering nutrition education to students.
