Abstract

The background of this training activity is to improve the quality of learning in educational institutions by introducing the concept of deep learning as an instructional approach that honors learners through the principles of awareness, meaningful engagement, and joyful learning. This approach is implemented holistically by integrating cognitive, emotional, sensory, and physical dimensions. The purpose of this training is to enable participants to understand the deep learning approach so that they can apply it effectively in their respective educational settings. The training used a participatory method and involved all participants of the ID class, consisting of 30 school principals from elementary and junior high schools in Makassar City. The activities were conducted from Wednesday to Sunday, 20–24 August 2025, from 08.00 WITA to 16.30 WITA, at SMK Negeri 6 Makassar, Jl. Andi Djemma No. 132, Banta-Bantaeng, Rappocini District, Makassar City. The final outcome of this training is the participants’ improved understanding of the deep learning approach, including growth mindset, the concepts and framework of deep learning, alignment of the school’s vision, mission, and learning objectives, leadership and management of pedagogical practices, learning partnerships, creation of learning environments, digital utilization, and the design and implementation of collaborative inquiry. This improvement is evident from the results of the participants’ pre-tests and post-tests, enabling them to implement deep learning effectively in their respective educational institutions.
